What does "eating healthy" mean anyway? Every doctor, nutritionist or healthcare professional will have a different answer of what it means to
"Eat healthy".
Let me preface, I am not a doctor and don't have certification of any sort when it comes to nutrition. But I do feel that God has given me insight into what is healthy...and it has radically changed my own health conditions. Not to mention, I have read hundreds of books, articles & newsletters that have reinforced my beliefs on the issue.
I confident that "healthy" is not defined by 100-calorie packs, carb loading, fat-free foods, processed foods, soy-based products, packaged meals or diet soda. Without going into all of it, the food industry has tainted our understanding of what is "healthy." Even the food pyramid is skewed. Sorry to bust your bubble, but I bought into all of that too. The hard part for us is these foods are convenient and tasty. The downfall is they are chemical-laden, hormone altering and one of the biggest causes for disease today (including heart disease, diabetes and some cancers)
These are just some of the foods that are healthy---and are biblically defined as nourishing for our bodies:
- Organic meats (no added hormones, grass fed animals- nutrients that protect and enhance the immune and circulatory systems, and provide complete proteins)
- Organic Omega-3 eggs (nature's perfect food. They contain all known nutrients except vitamin C. Eat the yolk- it will give you a healthy balance of omega-3 and omega-6.)
- Organic vegetables (wash them even though they are organic)
- Organic Fruits (fruit is heavily sprayed with pesticides so choose organic and make sure to wash regardless)
- Organic sprouted bread and whole grains (Ezekiel bread is an example of sprouted bread. It is hearty, delicious & digests like a vegetable instead of a grain. It is great for diabetics as it doesn't cause insulin levels to soar)
-FAT (contrary to popular belief FAT IS GOOD!!!! choose butter over margarine (eat in moderation), choose full fat organic dairy, nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado, fish oil) The body loves FAT and it is so good for the brain, metabolism and your heart.
-nuts & seeds (organic & preferably sprouted)
-Organic Dairy (raw cheese, milk, keifer and yogurt)
Before you write all of this off because organic is expensive, please visit my section on grocery shopping. I'll help you plan for your budget, navigate the store and cut unnecessary grocery costs.
I urge you to pray and seek God's word for health. As much of this information comes from my experience with the Maker's diet, I would certainly recommend considering this 40-day health experience to see for yourself.
