1 Corinthians 5:6 19: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own"
Luke 11:10 "For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
Prayer- wow where to I begin! For the purposes of this site, I am going to focus more on the importance of prayer in relation to spiritual and physical wellness.
Often times we isolate our spiritual lives from our physical lives. We go to church, do good deeds thank the Lord and check that off our list. Then we go to the gym, eat some veggies and feel better about our choices.
But what if our physical health collided with our spiritual health? What if we begin to seek God for answers regarding our well-being in all arenas of our life? This is what happened to me after seeking out every other possible thing I could.
If you read MY STORY, you know that I tried everything under the sun to feel better with little results. I felt like everywhere I went someone promised me success but I saw little results. "If you take these supplements, you will heal." "If you get this many chiropractic adjustments, your body will re-align and will function as it should." "If you use this face wash or that medication, your acne will be gone forever."
Well, as anyone looking for results would...I bought into all of this. Literally BOUGHT a lot of "cure-alls." I am not saying that all supplements and alternative means of healing are not helpful. I am saying that you need to seek God first to direct you where to go.
Without direction from God, we can be overwhelmed by the laundry-list of options available to help us only to be disappointed. When we seek Him, he begins to give us direction and discernment for our own body. This may even mean going against the advice of a physician or friend that you respect. This may mean giving up certain comfort foods for the sake of our health. Prayer has been the biggest part of my healing journey. I'll give you an example.
In July, I came across these herbal supplements on-line "proven" to restore perfect hormone function. I read review after review saying how amazing and life-changing this system was to women all over the world. I felt like I had finally found my cure! So I bought them- $100 a month (God bless my husband's patience with me). I was taking a total of 25 pills a day faithfully. At certain times I felt like they may be helping- but 3 months later, I hadn't seen great improvements. This is when I got the book "The Maker's Diet." I began praying and saying...."Lord...if I do this diet, I want to know it's you who is healing me. How will I know since I am taking a million other things?" Then immediately I knew what I had to do. I stopped taking the pills altogether. I told the Lord that I would trust Him to take care of me. That discernment came from HIM. I didn't want to stop the pills...but I also didn't feel right about continuing them.
Whether this interaction with God makes sense to you or not, I promise the Lord answers and will give you discernment if you put your trust in Him. Listen and ask Him to reveal things and He will.
When I began The Maker's diet, my health quest had direction and hope. I cut out most of my supplements, which was also a financial blessing. I was no longer on the internet looking for the latest cure. I was praying, trusting and seeking the direction from God. Not to mention, after 2 weeks I felt better than I had in years. This is after 8 months of trying other things.
My health journey continues, while my prayer life is becoming more intimate. God loves when you seek Him for answers. After all he knows you best.
